Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is set to miss their opening game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion due to injury, The Athletic understands.
Martial, 26, has a minor hamstring problem and the timing of his return is unclear, although it is hoped he may return for the trip to Brentford on August 13. If he is unable to recover by then his next chance to feature would come against Liverpool on August 22.
He left the pitch in Oslo — where United played Atletico Madrid in pre-season — holding his leg.
His injury leaves Erik ten Hag potentially short of numbers in the forward line.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who told United he wanted to leave the club earlier this summer, only featured once in pre-season during their final match against Rayo Vallecano. The 37-year-old left the match before full-time after being substituted off.
Marcus Rashford, the England international, can also play as a central striker.
Ten Hag has been boosted by the return of Jadon Sancho from illness.
Martial has returned to the United first team under new manager Erik ten Hag having spent the second half of last season on loan at Sevilla.
The France international failed to make much of an impact in La Liga, registering just one goal in 12 appearances across all competitions.
Before that, Martial had only scored once in the first half of the season while at United, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick.
But Martial has been in good form during Ten Hag’s first pre-season as United manager, netting three goals.
